Welcome to Team Dak Attack
Welcome to the home page for Team Dak Attack. Team Dak Attack is sponsoring a 10K Road Race and 5K Run Competition to bring awareness to Young Adult Cancer and raise money to send first time Young Adult Cancer Survivors to First Descents Adventure Camp. This great event is going to happen on September 13, 2014. In addition, there will be a 1 and 3K fun walk as well for those who do not wish to compete! This event will be happening in the community of Onida, SD.
Team Dak Attack's mission is to raise enough money to send at least one first time participant to First Descents adventure camp for 18-39 year old cancer warriors. Young Adult Cancer is an area that there is not as much focus on. This camp does just that. The experience allows for cancer warriors of this age group to re-empower themselves to this dreadful disease.
Why Dak Attack?
Sarah Iverson, the creator of this event, had the experience of going to Moab, UT, with First Descents to do rock climbing. At the beginning of the experience, all individuals shed their pre-camp, cancerous life and allow themselves to create an alter ego. Sarah's was "Dak". She came up with this name as she was trying to think of a nickname. As she was thinking of various forms of South Dakota and other ideas Dak popped in her brain. As she was continuing to think of combinations she liked the way Dak Attack sounded. She choose not to go by the full name through camp. However, as she was thinking of the event she felt that since she was attacking this head on, just like camp, that the full name was warrented!
Onida is 30 miles northeast of Pierre, SD.
